The Danbury Animal Welfare Society, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. DAWS was formed in 1974 with the mission of caring for neglected, abused, stray and abandonded animals in the Greater Danbury area.

Helping Paws

Kitten Rescue is a Los Angeles-based organization dedicated to finding loving homes for needy cats and kittens. Port Jervis Humane Society
The Humane Society of Port Jervis/Deerpark (New York) has served the Tri-State community for more than four decades. Our Shelter was established in 1959 by Robert Kleinstuber as a memorial to his wonderful dog, Jeff. This rescue helps cats, dogs and less common pets.

SARAH
A non-profit organization created to help raise funds and public awareness for handicapped animals through resource links and to provide assistance in the care, accessories, and placement of these animals.

The Siamese Cat Rescue Center
The Siamese Cat Rescue Center (SCRC) and Topeka Siamese Rescue (TSR) are non-profit organizations dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned Siamese cats and finding them permanent, happy homes. Northeast Pekingese Rescue
The Northeast Pekingese Rescue exists to rescue Pekingese from kill shelters, abusive situations, and voluntary surrenders. NEPR places these Pekingese in foster homes until forever homes can be found and ensure that each Pekingese is healthy, neutered/spayed and up-to-date on all of their vaccinations. This is a non-profit organization and 100% of the donations go to help our rescues.

Paws 4 Life
Paws 4 Life is a no-kill, non-profit, Animal Sanctuary located in Christoval Texas, created to deal with the current situation at area pounds. While we cannnot take every animal, and we do not take stray animals for liability reasons, we will take pets that the owners can no longer take care of due to unforseen circumstances.

Passage East Kennels
This is a small, family-owned & operated boarding kennel that has a true passion for animals. They have dedicated a portion of their kennel space to finding new home for homeless dogs in our community.

The Penny Harris Foundation
The Penny Harris Foundation is a group of individuals from both the law enforcement community and the civilian community who are dedicated to helping communities obtain a trained K-9 service dog for law enforcement. They work to save as many dogs from piunds & shelters and retrain them for police work thereby solving 2 problems - the budget restraints of communities and helping place a honeless pet into a new home.

Port Jervis Humane Society

Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue
YGRR is a non-profit, charitable 501(c)(3) organization which provides veterinary care and permanent new homes for Golden Retrievers from the six New England states (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont). We are a full-service rescue and we assist Goldens of all ages and medical conditions. Our youngest Rescue Golden was part of an abandoned litter born at Riverview (our rescue and adoption facility) and our oldest Rescue Golden was fourteen at the time of admission to our program. We rescued our first Golden in April, 1985 and placed our 3000th Golden during the year 2000.

If you are looking to adopt a small animal or reptile or need help with wildlife issues, please print out this list of Wildlife and Other Animal Rescues throughout Connecticut and the surrounding states.

If you come across wildlife that appears to be injured or orphaned, please go to Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. On this website you will find a great wealth of useful information including how to handle injured wildlife, what to do if you think you've found orphaned wildlife, phone numbers for wildlife rehabilitators and much more.

Please do not bring wildlife to PAWS. There are great people who specialize in this field and they will be in the best position to help you.

The Carrot Patch of Connecticut
Their goal is to help educate the public about the proper care of rabbits including the importance of spaying and neutering to prevent the birth of thousands of unwanted animals. We also work to place abandoned or abused rabbits into good homes. All rabbits are spayed or neutered before placement.

Ferret Fans
This is a great site dedicated to all aspects of ferret care and has a section on ferrets in need of homes.

House Rabbit Society
Our mission for HRS was based on two observations: that people needed to be educated about the needs of real rabbits and that there were rabbits in shelters in need of good homes. When we incorporated as a nonprofit in January 1988, we wondered if a government agency would find pet rabbits as important as we did. It did, and in May 1988, the IRS granted HRS a federal tax exemption.

Friends of Animals
Friends of Animals is a national organization dedicated to improving the lives of all types animals - pets, wild animals, and circus animals just to name a few. One of their goals is to help people with the spaying & neutering of all pets. Low cost spay/neuter certificates can be purchased directly from Friends of Animals. Pets and Animals In Distress
Pets and Animals in Distress is a free non-profit pet adoption, resource information and educational awareness web site for animal lovers, shelters and homeless pets strictly funded by your donations. Pets and Animals in Distress' mission is to help save, adopt and spay and neuter animals through better marketing, advertising and educational awareness programs to the public. They are working very hard to create statewide spay/neuter programs for homeless pets in state run kill shelters. Prevent A Litter Coalition
Prevent A Litter Coalition is dedicated to the implementation of community, preventative and sustainable solutions to align the pet population with good homes, with guaranteed humane care for their lifetimes. Check out their site to learn more about pet-friendly car license plate programs.

Spay USA
SPAY/USA, a program of The Pet Savers Foundation, is a nationwide network and referral service for affordable spay/neuter services. Our goal is to reduce the number of unwanted cats and dogs and to stop their suffering. Anyone who needs assistance finding low-cost spay/neuter services can benefit from SPAY/USA! You can order certificates on line at Spay USA Spay/Neuter Certificates

TEAM mobile spay/neuter clinic. You may visit TEAM's web site at TEAM - Tait's Every Animal Matters or call them at 1-888-367-8326. This is a mobile clinic (for cats only) so you have to call them to find out where they will be within each town. Their fees are very reasonable - for only $67 you can have a cat spayed/neutered, get a brief vet exam, vaccines (rabies, distemper, upper/lower respiratory infection), nail trim, and ear mite treatment.

He has been training dogs professionally for 8 years and is a canine behaviorist specializing in aggression problems.
