Adopt or Sponsor a PAWS Pet PAWS rescues approximately 115 dogs and 435 cats each year. We seek loving homes for these animals and sponsors to support them while they are in our care.

The Adoption Process

PAWS always has numerous dogs and cats available for adoption. Most of them are pictured in our gallery of dogs and gallery of cats.

Finding the right pet for your home and the right home for every pet is a challenging goal. Every adoption requires a completed application and at least one visit to our shelter in Norwalk, CT, to meet with an adoption counselor. PLEASE NOTE: PAWS does not perform long-distance adoptions or ship pets to other parts of the country. You must be able to come into our facility to meet the pet you are interested in adopting. All adopters must be within a reasonable driving distance.

PAWS is open to the public as follows:

ADOPTION HOURS:

  • Monday and Tuesday - By appointment only
  • Wednesday and Friday - Noon to 8 pm
  • Thursday - Noon to 9 pm
  • Saturdays and Sundays - Noon to 4 pm

The shelter is open to the public on Mondays & Tues for donation drop off, information and other services but adoptions are by appointment on those days.

The Dog Adoption Application and Cat Adoption Application are available online, or you may stop by the shelter to complete an Application. The application is extensive and time-consuming to complete; so it's best to fill out the online application before your visit.

Please allow 24 hours for us to begin processing your on-line application. We will make every attempt to contact you within one week of an on-line submission. Once we have reviewed your application, an adoption counselor will give you a call to set up a time to see the pets. The interview process and meeting potential pets is also time-consuming; please be prepared to spend at least an hour at the shelter.

The animals at PWS can only interact with adoption applicants who have completed an application and met with an adoption counselor. For the comfort and well-being of our dogs, only staff and authorized volunteers may enter our kennel area.

Saturdays are very busy, so we encourage you to make an appointment to come during the week if at all possible. Please understand that we try to provide the best possible adoption experience with our limited staffing and volunteer help.

It is best to call ahead for an appointment to meet with an Adoption Counselor, as one might not be available to meet with walk-in applicants, or there might be a lengthy wait. However, walk-ins are welcome and we will make every effort to accommodate them.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have other pets, please bring a copy of your Vet records so that we may verify that they are spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations. This is necessary prior to adopting a pet from PAWS, and there can be delays if records aren't available and we need to try to contact your Vet.

ADOPTION FEES: Effective August 1, 2012

The adoption fee helps us defray the cost of the animal's food, boarding and medical care. Any additional donation you would like to make above the adoption fee is greatly appreciated. Your contributions are tax deductible.

      Cats & Kittens: $100
The feline adoption fees include age-appropriate vaccines and testing for Feline Aids and Feline Leukemia for kittens over 12 weeks of age (Please Note: No test is 100% accurate for these viruses). We spay/neuter all cats and kittens old enough for the procedures before they go home with you. We also offer low-cost options for spaying/neutering unaltered kittens when they are old enough to be altered.
      Dogs & Puppies: $210
The canine adoption fees include microchipping, age-appropriate vaccines and testing for heartworm. We spay/neuter all dogs and puppies old enough for the procedures before they go home with you. We also offer low-cost options for spaying/neutering unaltered puppies when they are old enough to be altered.

    Sponsor a Pet
